چکیده
In recent years, a significant number of novel metabolites with potent pharmacological properties (antioxidant, antitumor, anti-HIV etc.) have been discovered from the marine organisms. Kappaphycus alvarezii (Doty). Being an invasive in the Gulf of Mannar after 2000 AD, has high content of steroid, phenol etc., this work was the first report of its medical application. The present study investigated the medicinal valve of red alga Kappaphycus alvarezii using in vitro studies. The algal methanol extract was screened for its antidiabetic evaluated by αamylase; anti-inflammatory activity using hyaluronidase inhibition and cytotoxicity against the stannous chloride in E. coli AB 1157. Chemical structures of the isolated compound from the thalli of K. alvarezii were established by spectral techniques (UV, 125 H NMR). The methanol extract of K. alvareziis showed potent α-amylase inhibition activity than anti-inflammatory activity. The screening results suggested that the algal can be processed further analysis using

Analysis of Bioactive Compounds and Antimicrobial Activity of Marine Algae Kappaphycus Alvarezii Using Three Solvent Extracts
The seaweeds are economically valuable resources, used as food, fodder, fertilizer and medicine and thus useful to mankind in many ways. In the present study, Kappaphycus alvarezii, a marine alga, has been analysed for the presence of bioactive products using three solvent extracts. Antimicrobial activity was also done using the same extracts of seaweed. The results revealed that the selected s...

The red alga Kappaphycus alvarezii (Doty ex P.C. Silva, 1996) has been intentionally introduced throughout the tropics for mariculture. In some cases, the alga has spread outside cultivation sites and impacts native biota. We conducted surveys of two sites in Bocas del Toro, Panama, where non-native K. alvarezii was previously cultivated to determine whether it is established and began to exami...
متن کاملAntioxidant and antibacterial activity of red seaweed Kappaphycus alvarezii against pathogenic bacteria
Seaweeds can produce variety of bioactive components for the benefits of humans. Malaysia is one of the countries to produce red seaweeds, which are popular secondary metabolites. Kappaphycus species, largest tropical red algae exhibit the high growth rate. It was reported that its biomass can grow double in just 15 to 30 days. Therefore, this investigation emphasized on two extraction...

متن کاملBioethanol a by-product of agar and carrageenan production industry from the tropical red seaweeds, Gracilaria manilaensis and Kappaphycus alvarezii
The two red seaweeds, Gracilaria manilaensis and Kappaphycus alvarezii are cultivated in Malaysia for producing agar and carrageenan, respectively. The residues of these seaweeds after removing agar and carrageenan by dilute acid treatment were subjected to enzymatic hydrolysis using cellulase (Cellic CTec 2). In the optimization of enzymatic hydrolysis, highest glucose concentration was achiev...
